The two homes are within walking distance of one another. The Modernism Week tour will be the debut of these two desert modern, custom hillside homes.

Suzanne Somers’ Palm Springs Mesa Home On The Market For $14.5 Million

Longtime Palm Springs resident, actor and businesswoman Suzanne Somers and her husband Alan Hamel put their home Les Baux De Palm Springs on the market in 2008 with an asking price of $35 million, just as the real estate market was collapsing. It is currently on the market at $14.5 million and is an incredible value. Her neighbor is Barry Manilow.

The celebirty couple purchased the hillside canyon property in 1977, the same year she shot to stardom in the hit TV series “Three’s Company”. They remodeled it in a romantic, French country style. The home features 10 bedrooms, 9 full baths and 2 partial baths. The estate is located on 73 acres, nestled into the hillside of The Mesa neighborhood in the south end of the city.

In a 2009 episode of Kathy Griffin’s “My Life On The D-List,” Kathy visited Suzanne at the home and was given a tour. You can probably find the episode on DVD or HULU and view the grounds and interior of the home.

7.4 Mile Round-Trip Hike In Chino Canyon Palm Springs

Early this morning I took a hike from the Palm Springs Visitor Center, on Palm Canyon Drive, to the Aerial Tram Valley Station, located in Chino Canyon.

The hike is approximately 3.7 miles and very steep and strenuous. The Tram station, where the tram cars depart, is 2,643 feet above the desert floor.

Along the way, I passed about a dozen walkers, hikers, joggers and bicycle riders, either on the way up or on the way down, ranging in age from their 20s to their 80s. The hike is along a paved pedestrian lane, next to the two lane Tram Way road. It took me about 1-1/2 hours going up and about 1 hour coming down. The entire trip was a little over 2-1/2 hours, plus a 15 minute break at the Tram Station.

My grandparents lived in Chino Canyon, and as a kid I used to hike to the Tram Station with my grandfather. Only we didn’t take the paved road. We hiked over rocks and sand and boulders, and through the oasis, to reach our destination.

If you love the mountains and walking and hiking, like I do, you won’t find a better place to live and keep fit than Chino Canyon, Palm Springs. Above are a few photos I took during my hike.
