From the time I was born, until now, I’ve spent nearly every Christmas in Palm Springs, California. I can appreciate a white, snowy Christmas on a postcard, in a song or a movie, but in real life, I prefer shorts and flip flops to thermal underwear and snow boots.
The picture of the three Christmas trees in the Palm Springs Village Square, above, was taken this year on the night of the annual Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade. The parade runs through downtown Palm Springs, along Palm Canyon Drive and this year the weather was balmy and beautiful. Just like nearly every other Christmas in the desert.

It took me an hour and a half to walk the 3.7 mile Tram Road from the visitor center on Palm Canyon to the Tramway valley station this morning. Round trip from my doorstep in Mountain Gate (across the street) was eight miles and took three hours.
This video was taken about half way up the road, around 7:30 am this morning. I’m getting ready for this year’s Tram Road Challenge 6K Run/Walk in Palm Springs, California, being held next week on Saturday October 25, 2014. The Challenge is a fund raiser for The United Way of the Desert and Make a Difference Day.

I took this photo on my walk this morning. I live in Mountain Gate, which is across the street, and about a 10 minute walk to the Palm Springs Visitor Center. From the center, I walked about half way up the Tram Road, to keep in shape for this year’s Tram Road Challenge. Round trip from my doorstep took exactly 60 minutes.
The 29th Annual Palm Springs Tram Road Challenge is a 6K uphill run/walk presented by the Palm Springs Aerial Tram and Make a Difference Day.
For over 25 years, runners and walkers from around the world have been taking on the challenge. Participants climb 2000 vertical feet in just over 3.7 miles. This event benefits the United Way of the Desert.
The run/walk starts at the Visitor Center parking lot and ends at the Tramway valley station. Hope to see you there.
