If you spent this week, like me, watching “When We Rise,” the powerful, moving and star-studded ABC TV docudrama miniseries about the LGBT rights movement–from the 1960s until today–you noticed that Palm Springs, California played a significant supporting role.
The series was directed by Gus van Sant, written for the screen by Dustin Lance Black and based on the book “When We Rise: My Life in the Movement” by gay activist Cleve Jones.
In one scene, Cleve’s character says something like, you can’t change the world or start a movement from Palm Springs, so he moves back to San Francisco. He had a point. Palm Springs is where most LGBTQ home owners come for the weekend or to retire. But just because we’re retired doesn’t mean we don’t support those still actively involved on the front lines, through networking connections, fund raising and in other ways.
Just one of the many celebrities and notable individuals to have called Palm Springs home, Cleve’s former Palm Springs home was located in the Warm Sands neighborhood. If you’re ready to call this city–rich in gay history–home, please contact me today at the number listed above.
My buyers want to get an FHA loan to purchase a condo in Palm Springs, and asked me, today, which condo complexes are approved for FHA loans. Since I get this question, quite often, I thought I would share the answer here, for other buyers.
Unfortunately, there are very few. In fact, according to one of our local lenders, Bradley Mullen, with Franklin Loan Center, there are only 9 complexes in the city of Palm Springs, currently approved for FHA financing. See flyer, above, for Bradley’s contact information. FLC also does conventional, VA and other loans.
The 9 FHA Loan approved condo developments are:
Los Pueblos Assn.
Palm Springs Country Club Phase V
Sunrise East Condos

With only 9 condos in this unique, historically designated complex, Pompeii De Las Palmas, Palm Springs midcentury modern condos rarely come on the market. And this makes these Romanesque, Hollywood Regency style condos even more desirable.

Since its beginning, Palm Springs has been known as an artist colony, attracting artists and art lovers from around the world.
While much of the art can be viewed in museums and galleries, a surprising number of artistic works and installments can be viewed on street corners, in front yards and in our parks.
Pictured above are the larger than life, found art creations of the artist who lives in this Movie Colony neighborhood home. The robot-themed art is colorful, playful and on full display for neighbors and passers by.
You’ll find this home on the corner of E. Granvia Valmonte and N Arquilla Road, just a block from Frank Sinatra’s former Twin Palms Estate and a couple of blocks from Ruth Hardy Park (where you can also view other public art work).
